Mannix was the Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne. E. J. (Edwin James) Brady was an Australian poet and author of Australia Unlimited. This work on Dr Mannix was the first in an intended series of biographies of eminent people in Australia. The idea was originally devised by Arthur Harry Stubbs (to whom this book is inscribed by E.J. Brady), and was to be titled 'Libary of National Biography'. Mannix was the only biography published. Brady also collaborated with Stubbs on a planned motion picture series, which led to the establishment of the Australian Film Publicity Proprietary [nla archives]. Item #97180
