Edges rubbed, spine fraying. Clear tape to spine. Complete with all illustrations, including the folding map (which has a closed tear). An acceptable copy of a uncommon and collectable first edition.

The author was an art critic, politician, and mountaineer. He was president of the Alpine Club 1902-1904, and later the first director of the Imperial War Museum. The book recounts his near-summit of Aconcagua in the Andes (the tallest mountain outside Asia,) and exploration of Tierra del Fuego. Item #97174
