The map showing the Swan River, Rottnest Island and Garden Island in Western Australia during Nicolas Baudin's expedition to Australia. Baudin and his crew left France in the 'Geographe' and 'Naturaliste' in 1800 arriving on Australia's south-west coast at Cape Leeuwin on 30th May 1801. From here the two boats sailed north along the Western Australian coastline, charting previously unrecorded features and from 17th to 22th June 1801 Heirisson made detailed soundings of the Swan River arriving at Rottnest on the 28th June. On the return journey to France the expedition again visited the island in the 'Geographe' and with the 'Casuarina' this time in March 1803. Item #95510
