London: Heinemann, 1927. 2nd printing octavo, original dark blue cloth boards with gilt title to spine, pp 304, i. New impression December 1927 (first published October 1927), defective missing upper half page 103/104, slight rubbing to corners and head and foot of spine. Small area of discolouration to rear board, few minor marks. Previous owner's inscription ffep, some foxing to endpapers at hinges, otherwise clean. Fair condition.

Priestley's second novel. Filmed as "The Old Dark House" by James Whale in 1932. Scarce as early edition (second impression) but DEFECTIVE with upper half of one page missing (see image). Item #88811
