A beautiful set of the classic account of Shackleton's British Antarctic Expedition (the Nimrod expedition of 1907 - 1909). The expedition reached within 97 nautical miles of the South Pole before being forced to turn back - by far the longest southern polar journey to that date. Shackleton was a prinicipal figure (and often considered the greatest leader) of the Heroic Age of Antactic Exploration. The book is stunningly illustrated with numerous photographs, drawings (some in colour), and maps. Item #106959
