Brion Gysin (1916 - 1986) was a British-Canadian painter, writer, sound poet, performance artist and inventor of experimental devices. "The Process" was first published in 1969 and utilises the "cut-up" technique. From the dustjacket: "This wild tale is the beautiful and often alarmingly funny odyssey of Ulys. O. (for Othello) Hanson of Ithaca, New York, a pot-smoking professor of the History of Slavery who travels to North Africa [...] 'The Process' has the dazzling impact of a drug-inspired dream, and has become an 'underground' classic of contemporary literature." Gysin himself described the book as "a wild tale of adventure in the Sahara, on one level, and the story of a search for self, on the other", while his friend William S. Burroughs called it "first class entertainment" Item #106861
