Sydney: F.W. White, 19011914. Four volumes, published 1901 - 1914. Quarto, four volumes all bound in dark red cloth with gilt lettering to spine and gilt-stamped owner's crest to to top of spine. Profusely illustrated with b&w plates and text illustrations. The gilt-stamped backstrip was previously relaid over the original cloth, and it is fraying at the edges to all volumes. Some marking to the upper board of vol. IV. Occasional foxing/toning to the reverse side of plates, one section in vol. II is evenly toned throughout, overall very clean. Very good condition.
A nice set of a very important Australian ornithology book. Alfred North was for many years Assistant in Ornithology at the Australian Museum, and this landmark work was commissioned by the museum. It is a comprehensive study, richly illustrated with hundreds of images of birds and eggs. Item #106411
