Harriet Daly (nee Douglas) accompanied her father William Bloomfield Douglas when he was appointed Government Resident of the Northern Territory in 1870: she would have been about sixteen at the time. Her book is an engaging account of her time there and the history of the settlement, recounting her own experiences and concluding with research from newspaper articles and official reports. (She later became a London correspondent for The Sydney Morning Herald.) The book includes the original folding colour map of "South Australia", which of course encompassed the Northern Territory at the time. An important book, uncommon and collectable. Item #106382
