Two sets of the publisher's catalogue: the first dated November 1872 (4 pp), and the second dated January 1882 (32 pp). Tenth thousand. Head and foot of spine rubbed and starting to fray, with small loss of cloth top rear corner of spine. Corners bumped and rubbed. Some pages have rough edges where they have been opened. Previous owner's signature. Good condition.

Considered "Darwin's most readable and human book, full of enchanting observations, provocative theories and remarkable photographs" (Oliver Sacks). "With this book Darwin founded the study of ethology (animal behavior) and conveyance of information (communication theory) and made a major contribution to psychology" (Dictionary of Scientific Biography).
