"If" was an American science fiction magazine launched in March 1952 by Quinn Publications. "If" published many award-winning stories over its 22 years. Includes in this issue are: five novelettes, including "The Snowbank Orbit" by Fritz Leiber; four short stories, including "One Million Four Hundred Ninety Two Thousand Six Hundred Thirty Three Marlon Brandos" by Vane Aahndahl; an article by Thodore Surgeon, and more. Frederik Pohl took over the editorship in around 1960: "Under Pohl "If" took on its own identity. Initially it had played second fiddle to Galaxy, but whereas Pohl kept the more select sf for that magazine, he turned "If" into a magazine for more adventurous and exciting sf: before long it was "If" that proved the more popular. [...] These stories gave readers a strong emotional attachment to the magazine because of the familiarity with the stories and authors." (SF Encyclopedia.). Item #105827
