A practical guide to the art of public speaking, provides an excellent insight into education in the early-Roman Empire. Quintilian (35-c.100 AD) was a Roman educator and rhetorician. Pliny the Younger and St Jerome were both influenced by the author. This is the final volume (volume 12) in Quintilian's extensive work, 'Institutes of Oratory' first published around 95 AD by Claude Capperonnier (1671-1744), the French classical scholar and professor of Greek at the College de France who was from the famed family of 18th century French Latinists. 'Institutio' describes how one ought to be taught rhetoric from being a baby through to adulthood. It covers all aspects of rhetoric, from grammar and the construction of speeches, through to providing guidelines on the correct dress and gestures. This volume addresses the career of the orator after he has completed his training. Item #105450
