Tall quarto, half-leather binding with marbled sides, title in gilt to spine within raised bands, eleven heliogravure plates (with tissue guards) and many similigravure illustrations in text, pp.62. (i, Index), decorated endpapers. Scraping to boards. Ex-library, with stamps in text and to reverse side of plates but none to the plate side. Good condition.
Rare first edition. An illustrated study of medals awarded in nineteenth-century, post-revolutionary plates following the Storming of the Bastille (14 July 1789), with striking photogravure plates. Includes medals by Augustin Dupre, Pierre-Simon-Benjamin Duvivier, Nicolas Marie Gatteaux, Jean Jacues Barre et al. Uncommon. Item #104981
