Quarto, original quarter cloth and cloth-backed boards with red lettering and red Belgian coat of arms. new leather and gilt title spine label, b&w illus, tipped-in colour plates, Belgian colours (red, yellow blue) at top of pages throughout, pp 171. Some scuffing, mainly to top corner and fore-bottom edge. Clean. Very good condition.
Marie Carola Galway was married to Sir Henry Lionel Galway, who became governor of South Australia shortly after their marriage. She was known for her charity work. The "Lady Galway Belgium Book" was sold to raise money for the Belgian Relief Fund. It consisted of a variety of articles, essays, poems and illustrations, mainly on war-related topics. (There is also a retelling by K.Langloh Parker of an Aboriginal story, "The Legend of Sturt's Desert Pea", which involves vengeance on killers.). Item #104649
