Octavo, half-leather binding with title stamped in gilt to spine, marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. "Doctrine..." published by the Swedenborg Society, London 1839, pp (ii), 36."Doctrina Novae" published by James S. Hodson, London; William Newbery, London; Edward Baylis Manchester, 1840, pp 44. Includes a two page statement by the translator, but the translator's name is not given. "(De Verbo.) Concerning the Sacred Scripture or The Word of the Lord from Experience", published in Bryn Athyn, 1902, pp 55. Some rubbing to edges, a blotch on the rear board. Previous owner's bookplate (Claude Toby) front endpaper. Very good condition.

The first two volumes are Swedenborg's teachings on charity, first in English, "now translated for the first time", and then in the original Latin. Also bound with "(De Verbo.) Concerning the Sacred Scripture or The Word of the Lord from Experience", published by Academy Book Room, Bryn Athyn, Pa., 1902. (Bryn Athyn College was and still is affiliated with the New Church and guided by Swedenborg's teachings). This last work is "a translation of the posthumous work, entitled 'De scriptura sacra seu verbo domini ab experienta'", and "is more generally known in the Church under the briefer title 'De Verbo'."
