Octavo, original dark green cloth boards with blindstamped decoration, nine b&w plates ( but lacks frontis plate which seems to be the case in many other copies), index, pp xii, xxv, 361, ii. Two previous owners' signatures front free endpaper, first in 1862 and then given to a niece in 1874, light toning to pages. Handwritten recipes inside the endpapers, for Castle Pudding, blancmange, and mincemeat. Spine has been rebacked, with original cloth laid over. Very good condition.

"A New System of Domestic Cookery", first printed in 1805, was enormously popular in the nineteenth century. It contains an extensive range of recipes and advice on running a household. Item #104241
