Dominic Louis Serventy (1904-1988), ornithologist and conservationist joined the wildlife survey section of the CSIRO IN 1951. The expeditions were mainly north of the Nullarbor Plain with areas of interest and vegetation marked. A note in corner defines swamps as marked. Also that the Coolgobbin swamp was filled when the party was in the area in 1954 to about 10 acres and a depth of 5 feet. A month later it was found dry. One of the main purposes of this CSIRO expedition was to revisit Queen Victoria Springs which was reported to be full of water with a great stock of bird-life. D.L. Serventy found it to be almost dry, but inhabited by thousands of birds. The trip was made in an old Landrover, with approx. 1100 miles on speedo at completion of this trip- navigating calculations on verso. Some marks commensurate with navigation on this first Expedition. Item #103990
