Quarto, colour frontis plate, colour illus title page printed in red, black and gilt, colour plates, b&w plates, all edges gilt, multiple pagination, approx. 950 pages light scattered foxing and light tanning to pages. Rebound in cloth, with leather and gilt title label, new endpapers. In the centre of the book are interspersed an uninscribed Marriage Certificate, printed in blue and gilt with dec borders, and three uninscribed page headed "Marriages", "Births", and "Deaths" alll printed in blue and gilt with dec borders. With the handwritten signature (underneath "approved by His Eminence") of 'John Card.[inal] McCloskey, Archbishop of New York'. (John McCloskey was the first American-born Archbishop of New York and the first American cardinal.)
