An anonymously published attack on King Charles I. Sir Balthazar Gerbier (1592 -1663) was an Anglo-Dutch courtier, diplomat, art advisor and architectural designer who spent time with the English court. but later allied himself with Cromwell and the Parliamentarians. Gerbier concludes of Charles that "He did not reigne like a King, for that he was unjust, both to his owne people, and to other Nations. Neither dyed he like a King, Nor was he mourned like a King. Finally, his Effigies was not suffered to stand like a King. And therefore he is by right termed. the None-such Charles." Charles I had been executed in 1649; despite Gerbier's attack on the King he was employed together with Peter Mills in erecting the triumphal arches for Charles II's entry into London in 1661.
