The illustrations are reproduced from the plates engraved for the edition of 1757, and designed by Gravelot, Eisen, Boucher and others. Fore-edge of spine vol. I and IV starting to fray, water-mark first blank endpaper vo. I, small crack beneath title vol III. "Brentano's New York" label to rear paste-down first volume. Very good condition.

A collection of stories by the 14th century author Giovanni Boccaccio, structured as 100 tales told by young men and women sheltering in a villa just outside Florence to escape the plague. This edition is based on that published by Sharpe in 1822; the plates are reproduced from the celebrated edition of 1857. This set from the New York Booksellers and Stationers, Brentano's.
