London: C. Davis, 1732. 1st ed in English, translated by John Lockman from French, octavo, pp.vi, (xviii, Preface), (ii, contents and errata), 311, lacking fronts. (?), wood-cut vignette headers, foliated initials and tail-pieces to each canto, blind-stamp of Melbourne bookseller, "J.Brooks", early incorrectly attributed ink inscription 'by Edward Purdon' to t.p., with half page manuscript on prelims 'Goldsmith's epitaph on Edward Purdon' in same hand (though we know that John Lockman was the translator of this 1732 edition), recased in quarter leather, marbled bds, gilt dec spine, leather spine label. Very good cond.
