London: Royal Geographical Society. Two volumes, half leather with marbled sides, all edges marbled, previous owner's bookplate front endpapers. Library stamps in white ink to lower spines withdrawn stamp title page and number table of contents, spines slightly worn with small loss lower second volume. Contents clean. Very good condition.

Of Australian interest, Volume VII includes: several reports on Ausralian exploration by Norman,Landsborough, Walker, Howitt, and McKinlay in Queensland, including a mention of the "lamentable fate of Burke and Wills"' a Progreess Report of the Exploation Committee of the Royal Society of Victoria, including the attempts to find Burke and Wills. Volume VIII includes: E.C Hargreaves on the Geology of West Australia [he concludes that there is no gold...]; Henry Maxwell Lefroy, 'Narrative of an Exploting Expedition into the Interir of Western Australia, Eastward of the District of York"; A.J. Scott, "On an Overland Expedition from Port Denison to Rockingham Bay in Queensland"; Sir George Bowen, on Settlement at Cape and Survey within the Great Barrier Reef, and an extract of a despatch by Bowen on goldfields in Queensland.
