An autobiographical account written by Thomas De Quincey (1785 - 1859) about his laudanum addiction and its effect on his life. It was originally published in 1821: this edition is the much longer, revised edition of 1856, with both the original preface and de Quincey's 1856 preface. The book has been described as inaugurating the tradition of addiction literature in the West. Item #100759
