LOCATION & HISTORY
Muir Books [Robert Muir Old & Rare Books established 1973] is located at 17 Lindsay Street, Perth, Western Australia. Situated in the Northbridge precinct, just north of Newcastle Street and only 2 minute walking distance from the Art Gallery of Western Australia, WA Museum, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts and the Perth Cultural Centre. Rare and out-of-print books, art, paintings and photographs fill the ground floor of a recently converted horse stable built in 1913.
Rob and Janet Muir are the owners and operate the bookshop along with Tara Surry. Janet has been the manager of the business since 1987. Having worked with her late father-in-law (Robert Muir) as a valuer and researcher in early Western Australian and Australian history, her areas of expertise are original manuscript documents, diaries, and artworks. Rob has worked as a sound engineer for nearly three decades spending time in the shop when required, and in 1987 following his father's death, he joined the business full-time. Tara commenced work in the bookshop in 2008. She is a graduate of the University of WA earning her PhD in English Literature and prior to joining the bookshop worked in the area of books and publishing both in London and New York. Tara has an interest and a good knowledge of literature and history and is a well qualified researcher and cataloguer. She is a genius in finding out of print, hard to find and rare books.
On site parking, wheel chair access and client amenities are available.
